juggling
Juggling has been a fairly significant part of my life for may years. It has benefited me physically, mentally and socially. My father first taught me how to juggle two and three balls when I was very young. However, it wasn't until I joined The Gamma Phi Circus at ISU that my skills really started to develop. There I learned how to club juggle and most importantly, pass. Passing to me is the most fun in juggling. You're interacting with other people and not engaged in the activity by yourself and as you progress in skill level it becomes that much more challenging and fun.
After college, there wasn't much opportunity to juggle anymore with a new, intense work schedule and a community seemingly lacking in jugglers nearby. It wasn't until I moved to Seattle to go to graduate school at AUS that I found another local group to pass with, the Cascade Jugglers. This group of jugglers are a ton of fun and really helped me amp up the difficulty with my own tricks and techniques as well as teaching me tons of new patterns. So, once a week during the winter, we'd juggle indoors at a space that we'd rent from Circus Contraption, and in the summer time, we'd juggle outside at Seattle Center by the International Fountain. During this time I performed in several exhibitions and charity functions as well as participating in festivals like the International Juggling Festival, Quadra Island Juggling Festival and the Lopez Island Juggling Festival.
Since my days living in Seattle, I've juggled with local groups where ever I lived; Tokyo, New York City, etc. When I moved back to Chicago, I started teaching Philosophy at William Rainey Harper College and while there I formed, and was the faculty adviser to, the Harper College Juggling Club where I taught many how to juggle balls, ring and clubs.
My current work schedule doesn't allow me to teach in the suburbs any more. The commute is a nightmare and luckily I live/work within a mile from each other. As a result I'm looking for people to pass with in the Loop or Grant Park area. Interested? Email me.
